Lavender, Gros Bleu

Gros Bleu Lavender is a popular choice for essential oil distillers, as it contains high levels of lavender oil. This is a true French variety with silvery foliage and potent but sweet smelling flowers. Dried leaves and stems make a fantastic smudge.
Plant in well drained soils and warm, sunny locations. Planting in raised beds or mixing sand, gravel or pumice into soil will create a good growing space for Lavender plants. Mulching around plants with gravel, sand, pumice or other lava rock will reduce damage from molds and fungi during the wet season.
Established Lavender plants need little fertilizer or water. Prune out dead branches in spring. Periodically, mature plants should have their oldest, least vigorous branches removed.
